PIEDAD ABREU
Author Last Post
I never stated that I thought the meeting was a ridiculous idea and that I was offended by the invitation. I do not. This characterization of my post is untruthful. All I wanted to know is something about this candidate as the press has reported that Jenkins, determined to get rid of Perez, pulled Abreu into candidacy and not so much for her progressive views but because she was a safe vote.

Actually, Dave, I invited you to the meeting so you could hear from Piedad and learn more about her and her agenda. I think she was favorably received and I hope that she will be able to stop by and meet you. I am sorry you thought it was a ridiculous idea and were offended by the invitation. I don't know why you think that she is a Ken Jenkins selection; he doesn't control the Democratic Party in Yonkers. She was selected at a Democratic Party convention at which District Leaders and Ward Leader -- people who are our neighbors and friends -- voted to nominate her. A convention that Virginia thumbed her nose at and claimed she couldn't be bothered to attend. Do you think she has any interest in Democratic (large D) principles? You're right -- Virginia has done nothing for Ludlow. She has also done nothing for her District, the neediest in Westchester County. As a reliable Republican vote, she has assisted the County in cutting funds for not for profits that serve the neediest in this City, providing day care and tutoring services so that children of Yonkers can be educated and become solid citizens, and she has done nothing to improve the quality of life or even maintain it by expanding bus service or improving our parks. You may be dismissive of party politics, but that's how Westchester County operates and I would rather have Piedad who is committed to representing her District and to working with the Democrats to fund our infrastructure, improve our parks, and ensure that we take care of those in need than having a so-called Democrat elected who doesn't even attend the bulk of the committee meetings that she is assigned to, does nothing to bring funds or resources to this area, and doesn't work with any of our City elected officials or anyone else, who will always vote for whatever the County Executive wants. It's our choice.

Hey, is anyone following this forum any more? Anyway, I got a notice of a "Meet and Greet" for this candidate tomorrow at the home of Dorothy and Joe Clarke. She is running against Virginia Perez who succeeded Jose Alvaradro, an Andy Spano sycophant who now has a nice job with Yonkers City government, a reward for fidelity. She also won re-election last time as two candidates opposed her and split the vote. Granted, Perez is full of community announcements but has done nothing for Ludlow, especially the sewage treatment plant and has voted with Astorino Republicans to reduce funding for needy families in Weschester . But who is ABREU, beyond being a Ken Jenkins selection? Has she been endorsed by the Working Families Party? What is her agenda, and I do not mean between closeted friends?
