remarkable neighbor
shelley senter

dear neighbors,

i hope this finds everyone well in the aftermath of ida and in the midst of much turbulence.

when there is a dearth of bad news, it feels even more necessary to call out good things, like radical acts of kindness. i wish to call out the remarkable kindness, fearlessness and generosity of our friend and neighbor, anne dechene.

wednesday night, as hurricane ida whipped through new york city, my husband marcello and i ran into brad crownover at grand central station, as we were all stranded and unable to get home because the metronorth trains were suspended. anne found out and, at 2am, got in her car to come to rescue us. she drove through an apocalyptic west side highway from yonkers to grand central and back to get us home. at the time, we felt unbelievably lucky and amazed at anne’s prowess and the fact that she would do that for us, but as the reality of how the hurricane has affected so many people continues to unfold, i am even more in awe and grateful for this profound act of kindness, and that i live in a world and neighborhood with a person such as anne.

this is also from brad:

““I think LPRA should create a neighbor of the year award and I’ll nominate Anne Dechene! Memories of her amazing generosity will stay with me. With neighbors like Anne and her kindness, Ludlow Park feels like an even more special place to call home.”
