Dog Park in Ludlow Park

Open Meeting: Nov. 16, 2010
Author Last Post
It was a dark and almost rainy day/evening...

Yet we managed to meet for lively afternoon and evening sessions, each of which included a presentation on our proposal for a Dog Park in Ludlow Park followed by Q & A with August Cambria, Yonkers Parks Commissioner. Thank you to all the brave, dedicated souls who came to the Chema Center!

The response of attendees at both sessions was overwhelmingly positive for the establishment of a dog park on the west side of Riverdale Avenue between Franklin Ave. and Culver St. A map with preliminary measurements as well as Augie's cost estimates are attached.

Keep your eyes open for the volunteers who signed up to canvas the neighborhood with our formal Petition. We are aiming to collect at least 500 signatures by Dec. 1. If you'd like to help gather signatures, please send me an email by going through the Contact Us page on this website.

Volunteers signed up take on the task of collecting signatures block by block using the attached Formal petition.doc.  We also began organizing groups to tackle different areas listed below. Even if you didn't make it to the meetings, it's not too late to get involved!

To sign up, request materials, ask questions: simply use the Contact Us section of this website to send me an email with your name and contact information (email, phone).

Steering Committee - oversee progress of all groups; interact with outside agencies & elected officials; develop formal organizational structure.
Design & Layout Group - work with Parks Commissioner to design the dog park; develop ways to minimize costs (seek donations of building supplies, volunteer labor).

Dog Park Rules Formulation Group - propose and evaluate rules governing the dog park, oversee compliance with City/State regulations.
