The Yonkers Planning Department has completed its study of the proposed rezoning for the downtown area.  The Planning Department has opened the public comment period on the Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement (GEIS.)  The City Council will be Lead Agency on the study.

Comments on the Draft EIS are requested and will be accepted by the contact person (below) until close of business (4:30 PM) November 14.

Description of Action: Rezoning of approximately 150 acres of downtown Yonkers centered on Getty Square, the traditional central business district of the city. The new zoning will introduce form based zoning into the code.

Location: Downtown Yonkers Central Business district

Potential Environmental Impacts: The proposed action will increase the density of certain parcels within the downtown and may have impacts upon existing buildings and sites in the downtown. The increased density may have transportation and shadow impacts.

The Yonkers Committee for Smart Development's views on the proposals' shortcomings from the YCSD President are available at YCSD on Rezoning Proposals.

A copy of the Draft Generic EIS is available on line at http://www.yonkersny.gov/Index.aspx?page=2354, may be reviewed at the Yonkers Public Library, at the City Clerk's Office, the Planning Bureau, the Department of Planning and Development or at the City Council and City Council President's Offices or may be may be obtained from:
