Ballot Questions - City of Yonkers
Voters in the City of Yonkers will be asked to vote on two ballot questions, both dealing with changes to the City Charter.
Proposed Charter Amendment #1: Passed 53% Yes, 47% No
This proposal would amend the Charter by limiting the City Council's time within which to conduct its review and approval of mayoral appointments to city boards and commissions. Under the proposed amendment, if no action is taken by the council 45 days after such an appointment, the council's approval is deemed to have been granted.
Proposed Charter Amendment #2: Passed 73% Yes, 27% No
This proposal would bring the City Charter into conformity with existing practice by placing the City's Economic Development Office and Office of Downtown and Waterfront Development within the City's Department of Planning and Development. The language that refers to the Economic Development Office and Office of Downtown and Waterfront Development under Article III of the Charter, entitled "Executive Offices" would be repealed, and reference to those offices would be placed under the Article of their current supervising department, Article VIII, "Department of Planning and Development."
